I SHOWED AN INTEREST IN GUITAR AND SONGWRITING AT A YOUNG AGE OF EIGHT.
BY THE TIME I REACHED THE AGE OF ELEVEN
I WAS PLAYING ALOT OF SONGS AND WROTE
MY FIRST THREE SONGS AT THAT AGE.
IT SEEMED LIKE SONGS AND MUSIC CAME TO ME SO EASY. I STARTED OUT LEARNING WHAT CONSIDERED FOLK OR EASY LISTENING MUSIC
FROM GREAT ARTIST SUCH AS BOB DYLAN, NEIL YOUNG, JAMES TAYLOR, AND MY MENTOR JIM CROCE I TOOK UP LEARNING FINGER STYLE PLAYING WHICH I SELF TAUGHT MYSELF MOST OF THOSE SONGS.
I WAS IN THE MARINE CORP LEARNING THESE SONGS AT THE TIME AND GOT AN INTEREST IN THESE STYLES FROM A GREAT FRIEND KIM WELLER.
I GOT OUT OF THE MARINE CORP IN 1976 AND MET
SOME FRIENDS IN A SMALL TOWN OF WINCHESTER, TN. MY MOM AND DAD OWNED A GROCERY STORE IN THAT AREA. I MADE SOME FRIENDS WITH JOE OWENS AND HIS BROTHER JOHNNY OWENS . WE JAMMED FOR AWHILE AND PUT A BAND TOGETHER CALLED OURSELVES THE
STRAWBERRY FIELDS BAND .
THERE I WAS IN TO ROCK SONGS AND POP AND SOME COUNTRY MUSIC . LEARNING STEVE MILLER,
EAGLES AND TO NAME A FEW.
I WENT BACK TO HIGH SCHOOL DURING THAT TIME
WHILE PLAYING CLUBS ON WEEKENDS.
WHILE AT SCHOOL I ENTERED THE TALENT SHOW
AND THE BEST TALENT WOULD BE ON TV FOR THE BEST TALENT IN SCHOOL WELL I WON AND GOT ON CHANNEL 5 TV SHOWING OFF ONE OF MY OWN SONGS AND BOY THAT WAS GREAT.
I GIVE THANKS TO A GREAT MUSIC TEACHER WHO
LEARNED ALOT FROM FOR THREE YEARS MR TANKSLEY WHO BELEIVED IN MY VOICE WHO HELP ME BRING THAT OUT AND SHOW OFF MY TALENT.
LATER I MET SOME FRIENDS IN SCHOOL AND STARTED PUTTING MY OWN BAND TOGETHER .
I HAD A GREAT DRUMMER DEWAYNE BROWN
HE PASSES AWAY IN A CAR WRECK LATER ON
ITS SAD TO LOSE GREAT FRIENDS. I MET A GREAT BASS PLAYER I PLAYED LEAD AND ANOTHER
FRIEND THAT PLAYED PRECUSSIONS IT WAS A GOOD BAND . WE NAMED OURSELVES THE GRAND FUNK SECTION.
I PLAYED IN A NUMBER OF CLUBS , PARTYS, AND SHOWS. ALOT OF FUN. LATER I FINISHED SCHOOL
EVERYONE WENT THERE OWN WAYS,
I MET A YOUNG LADY HER DADDY OWNED A
RESTURANT WHICH I PLAYED ALOT AT .
HER NAME WAS CINDY SHE GOT A JOB THRERE WAITING

TABLES AT A PLACE CALLED LAKEVIEW RESTURANT SHE GOT ME A GIG THERE WHEN I MET THE OWNER. HE LIKED MY MUSIC AND I GOT TO
PLAY ON THURSDAY NIGHTS .
HE WAS FROM NASHVILLE NAMED WILLIS WADE
FORMER LEAD GUITAR PLAYER FOR FURLIN HUSKEY,
I TOOK UP WITH HIM FOR 3 YEARS AND HE TOOK ME UNDER HIS WINGS FOR AWHILE.
I GOT IN WITH HIS BAND PLAYING BASS GUITAR
BACKUP SINGING AND WENT ON TOURING WITH
HIM. A YEAR LATER I GOT INTO A MUSIC SHOW
HELD IN DECHERD TN. SPONSERED BY A MAN
BY THE NAME OF JIM MORRIS AND HIS WIFE.
I AUDITIONED FOR THE SHOWCASE AND GOT IN BECAME GOOD FRIENDS AND JOINED THEIR
HOUSE BAND PLAYED BACKUP GUITAR AND SOME LEAD GUITAR PLAYING.
BACKUP SUNG WITH JIM AND MARY THE OWNERS.
WE HAD SPECIAL GUESTS SUCH GREAT OLD TIME ARTIST SUCH AS ERNIE ASHWORTH " HIT SONG TALK BACK TREMBLING LIPS" AND GOT TO PLAY LEAD SPOT FOR THAT SHOW . IT WAS GREAT!
LATER I TOOK UP WITH A LOCAL BAND CALLED THE SOUTHERN NIGHTS WE PLAYED ALOT OF CLUBS AND BENEFITS SHOWS IN TN. AND ALABAMA AREAS.
STILL DID SOME SHOWS OFF AND ON IN DECHERD AT THE SHOWCASE MUSIC THEATER IN DECHERD.
I MET A GREAT BASS PLAYER LATER ON THERE
NAMED JAMES STENSBY INTERNAL MEDICINE DR.
HE ALSO PLAYED GREAT KEYBOARDS AS WELL.
HE WAS WORKING ON PUTTING A BAND TOGETHER SO I JOINED HIS BAND NAMED WINCHESTER BAND. I PLAYED LEAD GUITAR,
JAMES STENBY PLAYED KEYBOARD , MELVIN HOPKINS PLAYED RHYTHM GUITAR,
HERB CHILLDERS ON BASS.
WE DID ALOT OF BENEFITS PARTYS AND
SHOWCASES SUCH AS THE HEART ASSOCIATION.

I MET THE LADY LATER AFTER THE SHOW NAMED MRS. PEGGY BURTON WHO RUN THE SHOW
SOUTH JACKSON GOES COUNTRY SHE ASKED
IF WE COULD BE THE FRONT BAND FOR LORIE MORGAN AND HER BAND.
THAT WAS A GREAT MOMENT!
LATER SHE LIKED MY STYLE OF MUSIC AND TALENT SHE SPONSERED ME IN HER SHOW FOR THE NEXT THREE YEARS I GOT SOME GREAT SOTLIGHTS ON THE SHOW .
REALLY GREAT PUBLICITY FROM NEWSPAPER AND RADIO.
LATER I GOT A SPOT FRONT BAND FOR PAM TILLIS AND HER BAND AND WOODY BOMAR.
THOSE WERE GREAT MOMENTS FOR ME.
WOODY BOMAR LISTENED TO SOME OF MY SONGS HE SAID KEEP WRITING HE SAID I HAD A DIFFERENT EDGE TO MY STYLE THAN OTHERS.
HE OWNED A RECORD LABLE CALLED LITTLE BIG TOWN AT THAT TIME.
I STARTED PITCHING MY SONGS EVERYWHERE
I COULD.
AT THAT TIME CASSETTE WAS THE BIG THING
TO SEND.
I FINALLY GOT A CONTRACT WITH BIG WEDGE MUSIC " RALPH JOHNSON OWNER" THAT TOOK THREE OF MY SONGS UNDER HIS WING
I SIGNED WITH BMI MEMBERSHIP BUT THE SONGS WERE ON HOLD FOR THREE YEARS.
MY WIFE GOT SICK I GOT OUT OF THE PICTURE FOR 3 YEARS AFTER THAT WORKING BUT STILL WRITING SONG.
YEAR AFTER THAT I PLACED SOME SONGS IN A CONTEST CALLED MUSIC CITY FESTIVAL AND WON 6 AWARDS FROM THAT CONTEST ALONE .
IT STARTED MY FIRE BACK IN ME.
I RECIEVED A COUPLE OF HONORABLE MENTIONED
AND 3 TOP 25 FINALISTS IN VOCAL AND WRITING
THEY PUT ME IN THIER MAGAZINE HERE AGAIN GREAT PUBLICITY.
A RECORDING STUDIO IN HUNTSVILLE, ALA. CALLED SOUND CELL GAVE ME A 5 SONG DEMO
SESSION FREE FROM ALL THIS AND HOOKED ME UP IN A GREAT GIG IN TOWN THERE CALL
EL PLIACIOS MEXICAN RESTURANT.
MAN I GOT ALOT OF TIPS AND PAY THERE.
I LANDED ALOT OF GIGS THERE PARTYS AND WEDDINGS, GREAT! LATER I MET THE MANAGER
FOR THE OFFICERS CLUB AT THE RED STONE ARSENAL.
I PLAYED AT THE MEXICAN RESTURANT ON FRIDAY NIGHTS AND THE ARMY BASE THERE ON SAT. WHAT A GREAT TIME.
A YEAR LATER FROM THAT I MOVED UP TOWARD NASHVILLE IN LEBANON TN TO GET INTO MY MUSIC UP HERE.
I TOOK A JOB AT A WAREHOUSE AND MET A GREAT FRIEND "STUDIO MUSICIAN " DON SMITH-
DRUMMER. HE INTRODUCED ME TO A GREAT GUY BY THE NAME RANDY COLMAN - PRO BASS PLAYER WHO OWNED A STUDIO IN ANTIOCH TN

LATER I MET A LADY NAMED BRENDA COLE WHO OWNED A RECORDING STUDIO CALL HOT TRACKS
SHE WAS DOING A TV SHOW TAPING ON SECOND AVE.
I AUDITIONED FOR THE SHOW AND GOT A SPOT ON THAT.
I WAS SHOWN ON CHANNEL 19 IN NASHVILLE
SEVERAL TIMES GREAT PUBLICITY.
SHE ASK ME IF I COULD PERFORM FOR THE FEED THE CHILDREN ORG. AND DO SOME SONGS SO I TOLD HER I GOT A SONG FOR THE FEED THE CHILDREN ORG. SHE SAID GREAT SO I INTODUCED THE SONG TO HER ON NIGHT OVER A CUP OF COFFEE.
SHE WAS IMPRESSED BY THE SONG SO SHE PUT A STUDIO BAND BEHIND ME ON THAT SONG AND OTHER SPOTS I GOT TO DO ON THAT SHOW THERE. SHE REALLY BELEIVED IN MY MUSIC AND STYLE I HAVE.
LATER I DID A BENEFIT ON CHANNEL 4 TV FOR THE VETERANS WHEN THEY WERE IN BOSNIA
GOT TO SHOW OFF MY MILITARY SONGS FOR THAT AND RECIEVED AN AWARD FROM THE US ARMY FOR THAT. PEOPLE FROM CURB RECORDS THAT WERE THERE HAD ME COME BACK TO THE
CLUB AND MUSICIANS STARTED PLAYING BEHIND
ME. THAT WAS WONDERFUL. THAT WAS AT CLUB LA FIESTA.
I GOT BACK INTO THE WRITING FOR ABOUT A YEAR AFTER THAT AND MOVED OUT IN THE COUNTRY FOR A BETTER WRITING ARE.
JOINED A CHURCH LATER THAT YEAR WORKING ON GOSPEL SONGS.
I MET A GREAT FRIEND AT CHURCH HIS NAME IS BOBBY BURNS WHO WE HIT IT OFF ON WRITING
GOSPEL SONGS.
WE RECORDED A 10 SONG DEMO BACK LAST YEAR WHICH TURNED OUT GREAT!
WE HAD A CHANCE TO PITCH TO A PUBLISHER
A GUY HE MET NAMED MITCH FROM THE
THREE BRIDGES WHO HAS A STRING OF HITS ON THE GOSPEL TRACK .
NOTHING HAS HAPPENED YET BUT WE KEEP TRYING I KNOW GOD WILL HAVE US THERE SOON.
I'M BACK ON WORKING ON SONGS AND GETTING
INTO HELPING THE CHURCH WITH THE MUSIC AND WRITING RIGHT NOW.
I DID GET INTO A SHOW IN NASHVILLE LAST YEAR
NASHVILLE ON STAGE GOT ON TV AGAIN ON 19.
AND A CONTEST BY WSM WHERE THEY PICK THE TOP TEN . I WAS NUMBER 8.
ONLY 1 WINNER FROM THAT BUT I GOT THAT FAR
I'LL KEEP ON KEEPING ON UNTIL I'M THERE.
